Atlassian's siloed approach means that you have to buy several different Atlassian products to get equivalent GForge functionality. Not only does each product cost separately, but if you host yourself, you will have to manage each product separately including operating system and product upgrades.
It’s a sign of how bad JIRA is.
The tool is so bad that people (including me) want the integrations to be hard simply to have a reason not to use it.
... I set priority and severity on every issue, yet I can’t sort by those fields in the planner or board, that’s infuriating to me.
Since switching to Jira, our team has never appeared busier!
Key-word: appeared.
Everything requires a plugin - that you have to pay for all of the users on the server ... And you must pay for 2000 users if that is your number of licensed users.
Cloud Jira is unusably slow in comparison, too ... and we’re forced with having to migrate, I’m not sure what to do.

Atlassian's Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
We'd be remiss if we didn't discuss the importance of Atlassian's high Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), especially if you run any of their products on-premises. When you compare GForge in terms of features, cost and TCO, GForge is simply the better alternative to Atlassian.
Pricing
Pricing should be simple and transparent. Atlassian does a good job posting most of their pricing, but their silo approach means you have to negotiate for and buy multiple products. GForge is an all-in-one solution, with pricing that includes all the features listed above (and more). It's not just simpler, it's also much cheaper.
Installation and Maintenance
Both Atlassian and GForge can scale to support thousands of users. GForge does it from a single server, a single place to manage and upgrade. Atlassian's product silos make for more complexity for on-premise customers, with multiple servers, more complex upgrade cycles, and higher TCO, over and above the license costs.
Integration and Data Migration
In the real world, enterprises often have requirements outside of project delivery and collaboration - ERP, CRM, and industry-specific systems. GForge has a powerful, unified REST API for getting data into and out of GForge.
Other real-world scenarios require archiving, removal or migration of projects. GForge's Project Export feature allows customers to get all of their project data in a single package, and even move data from one GForge server to another. Atlassian's silo approach (our common theme!) requires you to export data separately from each tool.
It's taboo to talk about losing a customer, but if GForge isn't the right solution, we aren't going to hold your data hostage.
Shouldn't every software company treat you that way?
