New Organization: Project Tab
Page Overview
The New Organization page's Project tab is the first step in creating a new organization within GForge. Organizations function as parent containers that can house multiple sub-projects and sub-organizations, providing a hierarchical structure for project management. This tab allows users to configure the fundamental properties of their new organization before proceeding to additional configuration steps.
The page presents a form-based interface where users define essential organizational details. The Short Name field establishes the technical identifier used in URLs and source code management repositories, while the Name field provides the human-readable title displayed throughout the interface. Users must provide a Public Description that will appear on the organization's home page, helping visitors understand the organization's purpose and scope.
The Project Visibility setting determines whether the organization will be accessible to the general public or restricted to authorized members only. The Org field allows users to nest their new organization under an existing parent organization, creating organizational hierarchies. Additionally, the Invite The Team section enables immediate collaboration by allowing users to send email invitations to team members during the organization creation process.
The interface includes validation feedback, displaying helpful text for each field and error messages when required information is missing. Navigation tabs at the top indicate this is part of a multi-step process, with subsequent tabs for Orgs configuration and a Finish step. The form prevents progression until all mandatory fields are completed, ensuring organizations are properly configured from the start.
